Iconic Beachside Pub in Bellara, QLD

Our Venue

Bribie Island Hotel & Motel is a family-friendly pub with accommodation in the Moreton Bay region offering tasty pub classics in a fun and welcoming environment just metres from the beach.

Our Neighbourhood

We’re proud to be located in such a magnificent part of Queensland.

At 34 kilometres long, and eight kilometres at its widest, Bribie Island is the smallest and most northerly of three major sand islands forming the coastline sheltering the northern part of Moreton Bay (the others are Moreton Island and North Stradbroke Island).

Our island, featuring the natural beauty of the Moreton Bay Region, is a perfect location for a family holiday, a weekend getaway, or an easy day trip from Brisbane.

We are surrounded by national parks (including some with camping facilities) surf beaches and calmer, more protected beaches, as well as some brilliant fishing spots to explore.

Our story so far

The Bribie Island Hotel was first opened in 1979. A news report in the Near North Coast News noted the pub was part owned and managed by former rugby league personality John Sattler and his wife Barbara.

It reported that the complex included a public lounge, private bars, a drive-in bottle shop and a motel.

“The single storey hotel in light brick is finished in pinewood,” it noted. “Its decor is light green in keeping with the Island’s easy-going atmosphere.”

The article noted that the hotel’s restaurant will be featuring a full a la carte menu specialising in fresh seafoods and steaks. “The Sattlers are planning special Christmas and New Year functions,” it said. “The couple have settled on the Island after living in Gladstone for the past two years where they managed The Young Australian hotel.”

In 2003 the hotel hosted Russell Crowe and his band 30-Odd Foot of Grunts. A newspaper report from the time noted Crowe arrived with none of the fanfare of a big-name performer. “Crowe arrived at the Bribie Island Hotel without an entourage, dressed down in black jeans and swigged a schooner of beer while on stage”.

The report noted that Crowe welcomed the crowd: “Hello to all the beautiful people of Bribie Island. It’s great to be here again.”

What To Expect at Bribie Island Hotel & Motel

Enjoy a parmi, schnitzel, steak or pasta at our restaurant or sit outside at a picnic table in our huge beer garden with a drink and snack and take in the stunning Bribie Island sunset. You’ll find it’s a very popular part of our pub at this time of day!

For the kids we have a sandpit and a slide under a sunshade canopy so they can play while parents enjoy the sunshine and a chat and maybe a delicious slice of woodfired pizza.

Your furry friends are welcome on the front deck.

There is always something going on at Bribie Island Hotel & Motel. Tuesday is steak night (a $24 250-gram rump), Wednesday is curry night, Thursday is schnitty night. And then there’s the music….

Entertainment

On Fridays our guests are the stars as they get in touch with their inner rock performer for karaoke in the public bar.

Also on Friday we have live music in the Garden Bar, and we host a soloist on Saturday during the day and a duo at night.

Our Community

We are proud to be part of a wonderful community on the Island. We are involved with several community events including Ride for Red, an annual charity motorbike (and sometimes car) ride through the region organised by Gronks Social Riders Club (GSRC) in memory of their friend Red Norman, who passed away from brain cancer.

The aim of the ride is to raise funds for Cancer Council Queensland, supporting cancer research and awareness.

The ride begins around 9am and its final destination is Bribie Island Hotel & Motel – usually arriving mid-late afternoon where there’s a dinner, live music, auctions and major raffle draws.

We always look forward to welcoming the big-hearted riders who drop in afterwards for a meal and a sip.

We host the annual Body Shot Golden Gloves boxing tournament which takes place in a boxing ring we set up for the night in the bistro.

In June 2025 The Bribie Islander magazine carried a report on the event describing it as “nothing short of spectacular”.

“The venue itself was fantastic, perfectly equipped to

handle the excitement of this large-scale amateur boxing tournament,” it noted. “With its spacious layout and vibrant ambience, it provided an ideal setting for both competitors and spectators alike. What truly set the night apart was the exceptional level of service provided by the hotel’s staff. Their attentiveness and efficiency made everyone feel not just welcome but truly cared for.”

We also have sponsorship relationships with the Bribie Island fishing club and support local schools with their raffles.

Accommodation

We offer accommodation in 16 rooms, including an apartment ideal for families. In 2026 we hope to add 58 tiny houses for even more accommodation. We also plan to add a jumping pillow and a new pool.

We thank The Bribie Island Historical Society for their assistance in telling this story.
